York to Gain 114 Affordable Homes and 14 Disability-Friendly Bungalows

York is set to see a significant boost in affordable housing with a proposed development of 114 new homes on the Green Belt. The project, a joint venture between Gateway Developments and Fold Housing Association, aims to tackle the city's housing shortage. Additionally, plans are underway to build 14 bungalows tailored for people with disabilities.

The development, set to take place on the edge of York, will offer a mix of one to four-bedroom properties. Approximately 60% of these homes will be available for social rent, ensuring they are accessible to those in need. Before proceeding with the planning application, the developers will host a public exhibition at York College on 2 March, inviting local residents to share their thoughts and ideas.

David Boyes-Watson, Deputy Director of Development & Asset Management at Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust, has expressed his hope for active public participation in the consultation process. The project also includes plans for a landscaped setting with tree planting and public use areas, aiming to enhance the local environment alongside providing much-needed housing.

The proposed development of 114 affordable homes and 14 bungalows for people with disabilities is set to make a substantial contribution to York's housing needs. With public consultation underway, the project seeks to balance housing delivery with community engagement and environmental consideration.
