World's First Ceramic Waste Park Emerges in India's Ceramics Hub as a Redevelopment Initiative
The small town of Khurja in Uttar Pradesh is set to become a global beacon for traditional industries, as the Anokhi Duniya park prepares for its official opening by the end of September 2025. This innovative project, built at a cost of INR 5.86 Crore, is part of the Yogi Adityanath government's vision to promote traditional industries and products globally.
Anokhi Duniya, spanning two acres, has been developed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and aims to become a model for similar initiatives nationwide. The park is designed to be a space where creativity, sustainability, and local heritage converge, as envisioned by Dr Lathar.
The park is unique in its use of more than 80 tonnes of ceramic waste, transforming discarded cups, plates, and even small fragments into stunning artworks. Small sculptures of oversized cups, plates, and even a tree where ceramic products form the leaves can be found throughout the park.
Anokhi Duniya reinforces the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan ethos, proving that environmental consciousness and culture can coexist beautifully. The park's design is eco-friendly, with footpaths and even flashlights crafted from waste.
Visitors of all ages are welcome to explore, learn, and enjoy art in an interactive way. A massive cup doubles as a slide, and a giant chai cup has been converted into a café. Landscaped gardens, selfie points, and well-thought-out lighting enhance the experience, turning each corner into a photo-worthy moment.
The park celebrates Khurja's industrial pride, providing local ceramic producers with global recognition for their products. It also promotes Khurja's ceramic heritage and provides employment for local artisans.
Anokhi Duniya boosts tourism and demonstrates sustainable use of industrial waste. With a nominal entry fee for accessibility, the park is designed for families to spend hours exploring this one-of-a-kind destination. The official opening visit by the public is expected to take place in early 2026.
