Wakenitz's hiking trail is once more open for use
The picturesque Wakenitz hiking trail, nestled in the heart of Schleswig-Holstein, has reopened after necessary tree care work was completed. This trail is an integral part of the "Green Belt," a network connecting old and new federal states, and it offers a unique recreational experience for both humans and nature alike.
The Wakenitz floodplain, stretching from the Ratzeburger See to Lübeck, presents an impressive river landscape. This area is characterised by primeval-like alder thickets, moors, meadows, and dry grasslands, providing valuable habitats for numerous animal and plant species, including rare amphibians, water birds, and otters.
As with many nature reserves in Germany, visitors are asked to follow certain rules to protect the sensitive ecosystem. These include staying on marked trails, avoiding disturbing wildlife and plants, refraining from littering or starting fires, and keeping dogs on a leash. However, for exact rules regarding the Wakenitz Nature Reserve near Lübeck, it is recommended to consult Lübeck’s environmental or park authority or the official nature reserve management website.
The reopened section of the trail can be found between "Zum 1. Fischerbuden" and the allotment garden area at Fahlenkampskoppel. Outdoor enthusiasts can look forward to exploring this beautiful trail once again, immersing themselves in the natural beauty that the Wakenitz has to offer.
