Volunteers needed in Alexandria to transport donated food via bicycle within the farmers market scheme
The Bike for Good program, a unique initiative run by the City of Alexandria, is making a difference in the local community. During the Gleaning season, which spans from May to early November, farmers donate food and produce items, and these goods are collected, weighed, and loaded onto carts attached to bicycles by volunteers.
This eco-friendly and efficient food delivery system operates during the closing of the Old Town Farmers Market. The collection of groceries takes place outside City Hall (301 King Street) in Old Town, and volunteers are encouraged to sign up for this rewarding opportunity.
