The Volksbank in Bergisches Land has completed the construction of its latest daycare center, Kindertagesstätte Unterburg, located on Hasencleverstraße in Solingen, Germany. The new facility, designed by Volksbank architect Andreas Bona, is a testament to modern architecture and flood protection measures.
The daycare center, which will be leased by the city of Solingen, is situated in a high-risk flood area, a fact that was not lost on Mayor Tim Kurzbach who recalled the flooding of Unterburg in July 2021 that destroyed the former daycare center. To safeguard the facility against such events, the new Kindertagesstätte Unterburg is equipped with flood barriers, flood-resistant doors, and raised technical rooms to protect critical systems. The heat pump was even placed on the roof as part of these flood protection measures.
The daycare center spans over three groups on one floor, offering a total area of 555 square meters, and boasts an additional 1000 square meters of outdoor space. This state-of-the-art building is not only flood-protected but also environmentally friendly, thanks to its advanced heating technology.
Volksbank board member Christian Fried, along with Andreas Otto and Henning Wichart, find investing in projects that benefit children and young people important. It is evident in the design and construction of the Kindertagesstätte Unterburg, which is hailed by Andreas Bona as the most beautiful of the five daycare centers built by Volksbank in Remscheid and Solingen in recent years.
The outdoor area of the new daycare center will be completed in the next few weeks, and the first children will begin their daycare routine at Kindertagesstätte Unterburg by the end of August. The center is fully accessible without barriers, ensuring all children can enjoy the facilities with ease.
