Vibrant Spectrum Display: Hues of Brown Abound
Welcome to All the Covers Under the Rainbow! Yes, I'm a little rough around the edges, but don't hold that against me. We're all about appreciating book covers, even if they're not exactly stunning. In this ongoing series, we'll delve into books that proudly boast the same dominant hue. Kick things off with our celebration of brown, a color that's earned a reputation for resilience, reliability, and warmth.
From the mouth of Sir Winston Churchill, "I cannot pretend to feel impartial about colors. I rejoice with the brilliant ones and am genuinely sorry for the poor browns." Well, today, we're gonna knock that notion right off its pedestal. Brown is a magnificent color that represents much more than you might think! With roots in the natural world, ranging from earth, wood, human hair, to skin tones and eyes, this versatile color has been employed in art since prehistoric times, gracing the walls of the Lascaux caves in France and ancient Egyptian tombs. In fact, the first recorded use of brown as a descriptor dates back to 1000! The monks of the Franciscan order even embraced brown as a symbol of humility and poverty during the Middle Ages.
So, it's no surprise to see brown emblazoned on the uniforms of sports teams, or the logos of brands like UPS, M&M's, and Hershey's. And now, let's dive into our list of brown-covered books. Happy reading!
