University of Applied Sciences Landshut Building Sustainable €5M Lab by Nov 2023
The University of Applied Sciences Landshut is constructing a modern, sustainable laboratory building. Set to be completed in November 2023, the €5 million project is part of Bavaria's Hightech Agenda Plus. The building will house six labs for around 120 students, covering approximately 560 square meters.
The new building is designed with future expansion in mind, with statics and technical infrastructure prepared for growth. It will be constructed as a solid wood building, featuring a ventilated wood facade and using wood as the central construction element. This choice of material ensures a positive CO2 balance and significantly improves the energy efficiency of the home.
Only the access core and stairs will be built in solid construction for fire protection and statics reasons. The building is prepared for the installation of a photovoltaic system, fitting into an overall concept for supplying the university with such energy systems. Heating will be provided via the existing district heating network, powered by a nearby biomass combined heat and power plant.
The project is progressing well, on schedule, and within budget. Upon completion, the building will offer a significantly better energy standard, thanks to its extensive greening roof. The Free State of Bavaria is investing around €5 million in the project, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable and innovative education.
