Torchlit Parade in Edinburgh's Hogmanay Celebrations, Guided by Viking Leaders!

After a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic and funding challenges, the much-anticipated Hogmanay Torchlight Procession is set to return in 2024 for its 31st anniversary. This iconic spectacle, a highlight of the Edinburgh Hogmanay celebrations, will take place on Sunday, 29th December 2024, starting at around 7:30 PM.

The procession will commence at the Meadows and wind its way through the Royal Mile towards Edinburgh Castle. With over 15,000 torchbearers, the event promises to create a river of fire through the city, as participants gather at the Meadows and follow the traditional route to the end near Edinburgh Castle.

The Hogmanay Torchlight Procession is an integral part of the larger Hogmanay celebrations, which will run from 29th December 2024 through New Year's Day, 1st January 2025. Known for its popularity, the procession often requires advance ticket purchase and preparation for cold outdoor winter weather.

The spectacle remains largely the same each year, with the procession led by a group of genuine Vikings from the Shetland Islands, dressed in full warrior garb and holding enormous torches. The Hogmanay Torchlight Procession is supported by various organisations, including ETAG, The Scottish Government, VisitScotland, Festivals Edinburgh, Marketing Edinburgh, Arnold Clarke Van and Car Hire, Rabbies Tours, and co-creators Haggis Adventures.

For those planning to attend, it's advised to be at the Meadows well in advance of 7:30 PM on December 29, 2024.
