Viljandi Folk Music Festival 2022: A Successful Weekend of Music and Culture

The 32nd edition of the Viljandi Folk Music Festival took place from Thursday to midnight on Sunday, attracting over 12,000 people to the central Estonian town of Viljandi.

The festival featured over 70 concerts across seven stages, with the largest audiences gathering on Saturday evening. Duo Ruut, Naised Koögis, Untsakad, Trad.Attack!, and Zetod were among the performers who drew the biggest crowds.

Zetod and Trad.Attack!, who performed on Saturday, were the most-attended acts of the festival. Zetod's concert particularly matched the crowd size of Trad.Attack!, both being highlighted as the top-attended events on that day.

Friday's line-up was also impressive, with Mari Kalkun, Tintura, and Svjata Vatra taking to the stage.

In addition to the music, the festival offered a gallery from the second and third days, which is now accessible to the public. The gallery from the third day of the festival features images from the event, providing a visual snapshot of the festival's atmosphere.

The Viljandi Folk Music Festival is already looking ahead to its next edition, scheduled for 2025. Although no specific dates have been announced yet, music lovers can look forward to another weekend of folk music and culture in the charming town of Viljandi.

The festival's organizers have revealed their plans for a lifestyle transformation at the next Viljandi Folk Music Festival in 2025, envisioning an expansion that includes outdoor-living and home-and-garden displays to complement the music and culture, ensuring a more immersive experience for attendees.

Following the success of the gallery in providing a visual snapshot of the festival's atmosphere, they aim to include a wider range of exhibits showcasing Estonian home-and-garden design and outdoor-living essentials that encourage sustainable living practices in line with the festival's values.
