Three individuals wandered off course on the pathless terrain of the Viluy track, located in Yakutsk.
In the remote and forested region of the Viluisky Highway in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), two separate incidents of people getting lost occurred on August 8, according to Sakhapress.
The first incident involved two women who ventured into the wilderness near the 19th kilometer of the highway for mushroom picking. Unable to find their way back home, they contacted the emergency service using mobile connectivity at 17:02. The emergency service of the Republic of Sakha responded promptly, dispatching five rescuers to the scene. By 18:40, the women were located and taken to a safe location.
The second incident involved a man born in 1970 who went mushroom picking from his dacha near the 15th kilometer of the Viluisky Highway. While out in the forest, he twisted his ankle and lost his way. Mobile connectivity played a crucial role in the man contacting the emergency service. He was successfully located and provided necessary assistance.
Getting lost is a known risk in such areas due to dense forests, vast wilderness, and limited landmarks. The area’s challenging terrain and extreme weather conditions can increase this risk. To minimize this, people should carry reliable navigation tools, inform others of their plans, go with a group or experienced local guide, prepare for emergencies, use markers or trail indicators, have a communication device, and check with local authorities for more specific advice.
The current condition of both the man and the women is reported as satisfactory. The Emergency Service of the Republic of Sakha thanks all involved in the operation and reminds nature enthusiasts to be cautious and prepared for unexpected situations during walks and hikes in the forest.
In the realm of health-and-wellness, people venture into the forest for outdoor-living activities like mushroom picking, which can lead to risks such as getting lost. To lessen the chances of such incidents, it's advisable to equip oneself with science-backed precautions like reliable navigation tools, communication devices, and planning strategies. While the current condition of the women and the man from the recent incidents is satisfactory, it's a reminder for everyone, especially fitness-and-exercise enthusiasts, to embrace a lifestyle that promotes careful preparation before engaging in outdoor-living activities. Additionally, maintaining a home-and-garden connected to the forest could provide a safer base for these adventures, given that potential emergencies can be more manageable with immediate access.
