Thermal Protection Derived from Ice Block Betting in Camp-Lintfort
The city of Kamp-Lintfort is inviting residents and visitors alike to take part in an exciting event titled "The Ice Block Bet," scheduled to take place from September 22nd to 28th, 2025, in the plaza in front of EK3.
During the event, two model homes will be placed side by side, one well-insulated and the other not. In both homes, a 200-kilogram ice block will be sealed. Over seven days, the cool blocks will withstand the sun, providing a tangible demonstration of the effects of thermal insulation on energy consumption and living comfort.
Stadtwerke Kamp-Lintfort, the main sponsor of the event, aims to showcase the significant impact of effective thermal insulation in older homes. By reducing energy consumption for heating and cooling, increasing living comfort, and lowering long-term energy costs, thermal insulation plays a crucial role in promoting energy efficiency and sustainability.
Participants are encouraged to guess the amount of meltwater that will be left in both homes at the end of the event. Guesses can be submitted by email or directly on-site. Correct guesses have a chance to win attractive prizes.
