A Fragrant Family Affair

With roots tracing back over two decades, Lavender by the Bay's story begins with Serge, a man who spent his youth tending to cows in Southern France. Fast-forward to his adulthood, he migrated to Israel to persue farming, eventually finding his way to New York City when he met Susan. In the late 80s, they purchased a weekend haven in Southold, NY, and, inspired by his cherished memories of France, Serge transformed the garden with a lavender-laden landscape.

Susan started repurposing the excess blooms into lavender sachets, stems, and rustic bouquets, selling them by the roadside during the summer months. Word spread, and demand for their homespun products and Serge's honey grew, leading them on a pursuit for more spacious grounds to expand. They found their golden opportunity in East Marion, NY, birthing the farm we visit today!

Lavender Love at its Finest

Today, Lavender by the Bay boasts two sites—one in East Marion and the other in Calverton—growing a mix of English and French lavender varieties. The 17-acre Calverton farm harbors over 80,000 lavender plants, bursting into a violet sweetness from mid-June to July, and again in late summer/early fall, offering a fleeting yet exotic spectacle that's not to be missed!

Come champion the lavender fields, purchase freshly cut bouquets to fill your home with their heavenly aroma, or stock up on products such as candles, teas, plants, body care items, and even honey from their own beehives.

Blossoming Now!

The Calverton lavender has already begun its annual dance, starting its bloom on June 7, 2025. While the blossoms aren't quite at their peak, they're already casting a soft violet glow and transcendental scent that enraptures all who visit. The East Marion fields are still catching up, but patience is a virtue, and the lavender can't bloom without it!

Stay updated on the bloom's progress via Instagram, and peruse the website to book your farm visit. With both sites open daily from 10 am to 5 pm (weather permitting), you'll find the perfect time to immerse yourself in the captivating essence of summer at Lavender by the Bay.
