Sprouts Cooking Club Expands to Harlem with After-School Classes
Sprouts Cooking Club, led by Camryn Hellwarth, is expanding its culinary education in New York City. Starting next month, the club will host an 8-week after-school cooking class at Eagle Academy in Harlem, with each session lasting 90 minutes. Sprouts will provide all ingredients, specialty tools, and chef instructions. Family members are welcome to join.
The after-school classes will cater to students of all cooking abilities, teaching fundamental skills like knife skills and cooking in-season. Hellwarth, the leader and chief ambassador, believes in the importance of these lessons. Christopher Zabita of Society Cafe, a participating chef, agrees, stating, 'Teaching kids about fresh produce and its preparation is a vital lifelong skill.'
During the winter camp, children aged 7-13 can join for one day or all three. They will cook with local chefs in their kitchens, such as Society Cafe, where they made popovers, seasonal salads, and cavatelli pasta in the summer. Sprouts Cooking Club launched a pilot program in NYC this past summer and is now preparing to offer year-round programming. The club also offers in-restaurant cooking classes, summer camps, and vocational training programs for kids in the Bay Area.
Sprouts Cooking Club's expansion into Harlem's Eagle Academy is set to foster a love for cooking and understanding of fresh produce in local students. With its year-round programming and diverse offerings, the club is committed to providing comprehensive culinary education for children.
