The city of Erlangen has announced the reopening of Goethestraße on August 4, 2025, marking the successful completion of a significant infrastructure project. The reconstruction, which began at the end of July 2024, aimed to strengthen cycling in the city and provide optimal conditions for safe driving experiences.

The project, which cost approximately 2.75 million euros, was co-financed, although the specific amount or source of co-financing is not detailed in the available results. The city of Hamm itself contributed around 515,000 euros to the project. The Lippe Association also contributed to the costs of adjusting manhole covers during the reconstruction.

The reconstruction did not significantly impede car traffic, with a traffic study conducted before the reconstruction showing that car traffic can flow smoothly on one lane per direction. The construction and traffic management of the project ran very smoothly, ensuring minimal disruption to the city's commuters.

The reconstruction of Goethestraße aimed to strengthen cycling by introducing dedicated bike lanes and separate cycle paths. This will allow cyclists to travel quickly and safely from the southern city center to the heart of Hamm. The reconstruction will also significantly ease traffic congestion in the city center.

The reopening of Goethestraße was celebrated by Mayor Marc Herter, who emphasized that the reconstruction significantly strengthens cycling in Hamm. He also highlighted that the project provides optimal conditions for safe driving experiences.

During the reconstruction, around 2,400 tons of asphalt were installed, and traffic lights were renewed. A "true" intersection traffic light was installed at the Goethestraße/Schillerstraße intersection. The city utilities also used the large-scale project for utility works.

The Goethestraße stretches from Alleestraße to Südenwall. The reconstruction of this important city thoroughfare is a significant milestone in Hamm's traffic transition, demonstrating the city's commitment to sustainable and efficient urban mobility. Everyone involved in the project worked well together, ensuring a successful outcome for the city of Erlangen.
