Revised Tour Dates for Exploring Zanders Region

The Zanders-Area Project in the city center is set to offer a series of intriguing guided tours, providing insights into the development of industrial paper production and the rich history of the Zanders family.

Starting from July 28, 2025, the tours will be conducted four times a week, offering citizens a unique opportunity to explore the future quarter and its historical architecture.

The meeting point for all tours is the porter's lodge at the entrance to the Zanders-Area. Registration for the tours will open on July 11, 2025, at 12:00 PM, at ourwebsite.de/fuehrungen-zanders-gelaende2.aspx.

One of the tours, "Coal's Journey," will be led by Erich Olpen, a former electrician at the Zanders paper factory. This tour follows the energy carrier coal across the site, from its delivery by goods trains to the historic power plant designed by Dominikus Böhm in 1931.

Another tour, "Historical Trace - Paper Production at Zanders," will be led by Dr. Sabine Schachtner, the former director of the LVR-Industriemuseum Alte Dombach. This tour offers a comprehensive look into the evolution of paper production at Zanders.

The "The Paper Factory and the Zanders Family" tour, scheduled for September 15, 2025, will be led by Roswith Wirtz, a city guide. This tour explores the development of the family-owned paper factory up to the 1980s and concludes with a short walk through the "old town" of the site.

Frank Stugg, former Zanders Works Fire Chief and current Zanders-Area Liegenschaftsmanagement employee, will also lead some tours. As a trained papermaker, Frank Stugg provides a unique perspective on the tours.

Please note that the tours do not take place from July 21-27, 2025, as they start from July 28, 2025. The tours will begin at 4:00 PM on Mondays (starting from October 20, they will start at 3:00 PM).

For those who miss the initial 20 spots per date, you can sign up for a waiting list via email at [email protected].

These guided tours promise to be an enlightening experience for anyone interested in the history and industrial evolution of paper production in the city. We recommend checking the dedicated website or local cultural office for the most accurate and current information.
