Support and Resilience at Fauna Zoo Solingen

Fauna Zoo Solingen, a beloved destination for animal lovers, faced numerous challenges throughout 2025. From a devastating flood in May to the deportation of a young Syrian veterinarian, the zoo has shown remarkable resilience and spirit.

Despite these setbacks, the zoo received significant support from various quarters. The Giossi Foundation, Solingen City Sparkasse, Gerd-Kaimer-Citizen's Foundation, Otter-Messer, Family Riemann, and Zoo of the Minis in Aue were among the key contributors over the past three years.

Holzhandel Baumgartner, a local timber merchant, came to the aid of the zoo on several occasions, providing essential resources when needed. The city's nature and environmental service and the technical operations of Solingen asphalted a part of the path at the employee entrance and slightly changed the gradient in the outdoor area, ensuring the zoo could continue to operate smoothly.

The zoo also received generous help from businesses such as Jurtenland, who provided materials and labour for the gnome roof, and Zoo2go, who created an interactive park map at their own expense. The Brothers Schleiminger traveled through Europe for the 6 Bridges Rally project and collected a large sum of donations for the zoo.

The Klingenstromers handed over the remaining assets of their e-mobility association to the zoo, while the waffle baking from Frischemarkt Dornseifer and the flea market of Grundschule Westersburg provided financial support for upcoming construction measures.

The zoo appreciates the help of various veterinarians, the hunting community, and volunteers in park maintenance and cashier duties. The species protection day, held a week after a horrifying event on August 23, saw the participation of NABU Solingen, the Biodidactics of the University of Wuppertal, the Solingen Beekeepers' Association, the City Service Nature and Environment, and the DGHT (German Society for Herpetology and Terrarium Studies).

Manfred Albrecht GmbH Werkzeugbau und Fertigungstechnik made almost regular donations, and Raiffeisen-Market Wuppertal collected for the zoo during the holiday season. The Hundesalon Baldur organized a dog show where the zoo was able to present themselves and receive a share of the proceeds.

The Gerd-Kaimer-Citizen's Foundation made it possible to renovate and equip the 60-year-old roofing felt pond with new technology, while Zoo and Garden Lieret, Firma Scalabrin, and Bergisch Land Natural Stone Quarries were involved in the renovation of the roofing felt pond.

The washing bear enclosure is currently under construction, funded by the Gerd-Kaimer-Citizen's Foundation. Despite the challenges, the zoo remains optimistic, wishing a good, fulfilling, and peaceful slide into the year 2026 for all, and reminding everyone to consider the well-being of animals.

The zoo thanks all loyal visitors, members, donors, and supporters, without whom the zoo could not exist and continue to develop. The spirit of community and support for Fauna Zoo Solingen is truly heartening, and the zoo looks forward to a brighter future.
