Bargain hunters rejoice: Negotiating prices on bicycle purchases routinely yields savings of hundreds of euros.

Reducing cost of bicycles is common practice.

Strapped for cash when it comes to buying a new bike? Fear not, because the art of haggling might just be your ticket to savings. While some may find the thought intimidating, others see it as an opportunity to score a sweet deal. But is it worth it? According to ADAC's undercover investigation, absolutely!

ADAC, Germany's renowned automobile club, took to the streets – or bike lanes, to be precise – in a mission to uncover potential discounts on bike purchases. The results were nothing short of impressive. In 88% of instances, they managed to negotiate a price reduction – sometimes even off the MSRP!

So, when you're eyeing that sleek E-Mountainbike or stylish city bike, don't be shy about asking for a lower price. Here's what you can expect:

Bikes Cheaper than Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP)

ADAC's testers started by checking if any discounts were already applied to the MSRP on the price tags. Then, they made two attempts at haggling the price down. The grand total? A whopping 88% of desired models were cheaper than the MSRP!

Over a third of all retailers already offered a reduced price compared to the MSRP on the price tag. A further 63% and 46% gave in during the first and second price negotiation, respectively.

On average, there was a 13% discount on the E-Mountainbike, with city bikes seeing a 15% reduction. Discounts weren't only given as lower prices but also in the form of discounted accessories such as locks and free services.

City vs. Countryside: Price Comparison

Interestingly, ADAC's testers noticed a price difference between urban and rural areas. In the city, half of the bikes already had a lower price than the MSRP. Compared to the countryside, where only one out of every three models boasted a lower price.

Key takeaway: Visit multiple retailers, as prices for the same product can vary dramatically.
