Redesigned play areas: contemporary, welcoming spaces catering to various children's needs and backgrounds

In the heart of Gütersloh, four playgrounds have been given a fresh lease of life, transforming them into modern, engaging, and inclusive spaces for children and families. The playgrounds at Münstermannsweg, Kuckucksweg, Anna-Voß-Straße, and Birkhuhnweg have been comprehensively renovated, offering diverse, safe, and up-to-date play news for children, and new meeting places for families and neighbourhoods.

Let's start with Kuckucksweg, the playground in the town centre of Friedrichsdorf. Opened at the end of 2024, this revamped playground boasts modern, colourful equipment, natural wooden elements, and a focus on sustainability. Special attractions include a seven-meter-high 'DNA-Tower', a zip line, a multi-trampoline, and an inclusive sand play area with wheelchair access. Two ramps now provide wheelchair access, enabling joint play in the middle of the area. Picnic and seating areas complete the equipment, and new tree and shrub plantings structure the entire playground.

The renovated playground has been well utilized since its opening.

Moving on to Anna-Voß-Straße, the playground has been transformed into a small excursion destination for families. New paths have been added for improved accessibility. The multi-swing has been renewed, and additional seating and a spring boat have been added. To prevent dogs from entering, a newly planted fence has been installed. The playground has also been made suitable as a family destination, with the addition of new paths and a tactile guide strip.

Over at Birkhuhnweg, a large portion of the playground has been redesigned at the end of a cul-de-sac in Avenwedde-Bahnhof. New paths and a tactile guide strip have been added, and the playground now features an appealing U3 offering: A wheelchair-accessible playhouse, a terrain vehicle with a math playground, and other elements for inclusive play.

Lastly, Münstermannsweg playground offers a new play area for children aged 3-12. Featuring a Tampenschwinger, sand play area, standing seesaw, spring rocker, balancing path, and central play area with speaking tubes and climbing path, this playground caters to a wide range of ages and interests. Seating areas and a picnic group are also available for parents and accompanying persons. New shrubs are planned to be added in the fall to enhance natural play.

Katharina Krause, responsible for planning and building playgrounds in the Green Spaces department, states that the results of these projects are diverse, safe, and up-to-date play news for children, and new meeting places for families and neighbourhoods. The redesign of the playgrounds in Gütersloh continues with the projects at Anna-Voß-Straße and Birkhuhnweg.

These renovations mark a significant step towards creating more inclusive and engaging play spaces for children and families in Gütersloh, fostering a sense of community and promoting active, outdoor play.
