CELSA Steel and GBRf Form Long-Term Partnership to Achieve Net Zero Emissions
In a significant move towards sustainability, CELSA Steel, a key player in the UK's steel industry, has entered into a twelve-year contract with GB Railfreight (GBRf). This partnership, set to last until 2033, is a testament to both companies' commitment to innovative solutions and the ambitious goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
For two decades, CELSA Steel has been an integral part of the Cardiff industrial landscape, and with this new partnership, it aims to build on its strong foundations for many years to come. The steel manufacturer intends to provide low carbon steel products for numerous construction projects throughout the UK, further cementing its role in the industry.
Under the terms of the agreement, GBRf will provide internal shunting services, including remote-control shunt locomotives, train crews, and ancillary services. A dedicated team of shunt crews will operate shunt movements on a permanent basis, ensuring smooth and efficient internal rail movements for CELSA Steel UK.
All internal rail movements for Celsa Steel UK will be undertaken by GBRf, encompassing the transportation of inbound scrap metal, hot billets, and outbound finished products. In addition, GBRf will assist Celsa with managing internal track and wagon maintenance assessments, further streamlining operations.
John Smith, the Managing Director of GB Railfreight, stated that the service will be a vital part of the UK's steel industry. He also confirmed that the contract will last until 2033, marking a commitment from both companies to explore more environmentally friendly alternatives for locomotive supply.
CELSA Steel is proud of its heritage and looks forward to overcoming challenges together as it works to enhance its business and eliminate its carbon footprint. The long-term contract with GBRf represents another step on CELSA Steel's path to sustainability.
This partnership is not only a significant step for CELSA Steel but also for GBRf, demonstrating its resilience and flexibility in supporting various industries within the UK. As the largest manufacturer of steel reinforcement in the UK and one of the largest producers of other long steel products, CELSA Steel's success is guaranteed through strong partnerships with those who want to join its journey towards sustainability.
