Backstage in Munich to Undergo Renovation, Aiming for Energy-Neutral Status

The cultural and event venue Backstage in Munich is set to undergo a significant renovation, with the goal of making it energy-neutral, generating as much energy as it consumes. The venue, fully owned by its operator, is taking a step forward in promoting climate protection and resource conservation.

The estimated costs for the renovation amount to around 35 million euros. The project is planned to be financed without selling out its ideals to investors.

At the heart of the renovation plans is the construction of a new multi-purpose hall called the "Backstage Arena." This state-of-the-art venue will accommodate around 3,000 visitors, potentially up to 4,000. An underground techno club is also planned directly under the Backstage Arena.

The existing buildings, including the event spaces "Werk," "Halle," and "Club," will be integrated into the green vision of the renovation. The roof areas will be renewed for natural soundproofing and as ecological compensation.

The Backstage will feature a new beer garden, sports facilities, conference rooms, and publicly accessible, consumption-free green areas. The venue aims to serve as a meeting place for the neighborhood.

Functional soundproofing will be ensured due to the construction of apartments in the immediate vicinity. A large-scale solar power plant will be installed on a new car park for renewable energy generation.

The Backstage renovation could serve as a model for sustainable urban culture. If approved, construction could begin as early as 2026, with a completion of the project by 2029 considered realistic.
