Peter Piller, a contemporary German artist renowned for his work in photography and conceptual art, is currently exhibiting at the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf. The exhibition, titled "there are a couple of things that bother me," showcases over 400 individual sheets from the past 25 years, grouped into 15 sections.

Piller, who lives in Hamburg but works as a professor in Düsseldorf, is known for his distinctive style of addressing concerns and issues through his art. His work often explores themes of everyday life, media, and documentary photography, which are common in contemporary German photography.

The series "Takes Damage" is a significant part of Piller's exhibition. It includes drawings, scans, and photographs, some of which are copies from an insurance archive, depicting images of mold, soot, and unrecognizable damage. The series also features images of abandoned battlefields and the night photo of the bombing of Baghdad, copied from various newspapers.

Meanwhile, at the Kunstverein, the independent co-tenant of the Kunsthalle, Jessica Vaughn's work is being showcased. Vaughn's work deals with societal injustices and negotiates the relationships of work, race, and space. Her exhibition, titled "I love Customers," refers to corporate slogans. A video by Vaughn, "Visible Hands," shows working people in a nail salon, on the assembly line, cleaning, and sewing.

Piller's exhibition at the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf also includes very introspective, ephemeral sketches that Piller created on academy letterheads and spontaneously after "peripheral wanderings." These sketches add a personal touch to the exhibition, reflecting Piller's unique artistic approach.

For those interested in learning more about Piller's work and the themes explored in his exhibition, viewing current exhibitions or interviews involving the artist might offer valuable insights. The Kunsthalle Düsseldorf and the Kunstverein are both open from Di-So 11-18h and can be accessed via www.kunsthalle-duesseldorf.de and www.kunstverein-duesseldorf.de, respectively.

Peter Piller's distinctive style of addressing concerns and issues through his art often includes themes of everyday life, such as his series "Takes Damage," which features images of home-and-garden deterioration alongside photographs of abandoned battlefields and damaged areas. Contrastingly, Jessica Vaughn's work, displayed at the Kunstverein, deals with societal injustices, and her exhibit, "I love Customers," touches upon the relationships of work, race, and space, even showcasing videos like "Visible Hands" that capture working people in various professions.
