Petco deepens in-store collaboration with Lowe's, spreading to 300 locations.
Get ready for Lowe's expanding its collaboration with Petco's shop-in-shop program from a mere 15 locations to a whopping 300 by the end of this year!
Insight:
This growth spurt is a smart play in Lowe's strategy to cater to customers living in rural areas. As Marvin Ellison, CEO of Lowe's, mentioned during a call with analysts in May, these rural shops will play a significant role in boosting Lowe's profits over the next few years.
On a different note, Lowe's will also be announcing plans to scale up its rural store format to an additional 300 locations by 2023, offering a broader selection of farm, ranch, and outdoor products.
While this is happening, the Petco-Lowe's partnership is aimed at introducing new brands and services to these underserved populations.
According to Bill Boltz, Lowe's Executive Vice President of Merchandising, by increasing the shop-in-store footprint, they're providing tailor-made products and services that suit the unique needs of rural customers, streamlining their shopping experience.
This Petco-Lowe's partnership kicked off in early 2022, starting with a store in Alamo Ranch, Texas, followed by 14 more locations in Texas, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
Boltz revealed that the partnership resonated with their existing shoppers and attracted new customers to Lowe's.
Petco has also been targeting a rural audience. In fact, last year they introduced the Neighborhood Farm & Pet Supply concept—a one-stop shop for pet and farm animal products—to cater to this demographic.
- To cater further to the unique needs of rural customers within Lowe's stores, Artificial Intelligence could be employed to offer personalized suggestions for labor-saving home-and-garden tools, as well as pet supplies.
- In the realm of medicine, Lowe's might consider introducing lifestyle products beneficial for both pets and their owners, such as healthy pet foods that support joint health or allergy relief products for both humans and their pets.
- As Lowe's expands its store formats and collaborations, it could explore the integration of AI-driven medicine cabinets that offer suggestions for over-the-counter remedies for common ailments in both pets and humans, streamlining the selection process for customers.
