So, it turns out the city of Neuss scooped up the Kaufhof property through their subsidiary, Neusser Bau und Immobilienmanagement GmbH (NBI), back on April 2, 2024. Now, they're tossin' around ideas for what to do with this prime piece of real estate.
Jürgen Steinmetz, the CEO of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mittlerer Niederrhein (IHK), has let it slip that they're eyein' a "Market Quarter" for the area, packin' in retail spaces and a potential new home for the IHK Campus. Steinmetz ain't shy about thinkin' they can roll with this space program, assumin' it could potentially carve out two sweet spots for the Neuss IHK's future growth plans.
But what about the ol' Wendersplatz? Steinmetz's cool with keepin' it in place, and they got the green light to explore exemptions from the designated public use area and building boundaries. They ran a test with the law firm Kapellmann Rechtsanwälte to make sure everything's on the up and up.
On the city's end, they've put together a building commission to steer the development, with one rep from each party represented in the city council. These peeps will be advisin' the shareholders' meeting of NBI as they roll out their plans for the property. They ain't shy about bringin' in outside help if needed, and they'll be stickin' around to keep things runnin' smooth.
