Nestlé Vietnam Embraces Sustainable and Responsible Community Development

Nestlé Vietnam is taking significant strides towards creating a greener and more inclusive future by implementing initiatives focused on sustainable and responsible community development, particularly in support of recycling businesses and informal waste workers.

One of the key aspects of these initiatives is the enhancement of working conditions and the promotion of labour rights within the waste collection and recycling sector. Nestlé Vietnam organizes specialized training programs for its recycling industry partners to improve occupational safety and hygiene, ensuring compliance with legal regulations and enhancing workers’ health while reducing occupational accidents.

Collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Vietnam plays a crucial role in these efforts. Nestlé Vietnam works with UNDP Vietnam on a responsible sourcing initiative within plastic recycling value chains, involving partners like Duy Tân and Vikohasan. This initiative aims to enhance working conditions and promote the rights and livelihoods of informal waste workers, recognizing their critical role in Vietnam's waste collection, transportation, and recycling system.

In addition to this, Nestlé Vietnam supports recycling businesses by providing knowledge and tools to strengthen competitiveness and cultivate safer, compliant, and socially responsible working environments. This aligns with the company’s “Creating Shared Value” philosophy and commitment to long-term community development centered on people.

Nestlé Vietnam has also made commitments towards packaging sustainability. The company aims to make over 95% of its packaging recyclable by 2025, including eliminating problematic packaging, reducing plastic wrapping, and enhancing the recyclability and value of packaging—actions that support circular economy efforts benefiting waste collection and recycling sectors indirectly.

The company's efforts extend beyond recycling businesses and workers. Nestlé Vietnam has partnered with Nestlé Health Science to improve nutrition health knowledge for the community, bringing scientific and specialized nutrition solutions for Vietnamese. Additionally, Nestlé Vietnam has signed an MoU with the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) to implement initiatives following the three-house model (state, school, enterprise).

Furthermore, Nestlé Vietnam has implemented activities as part of NESTGEN 2025 to empower the youth to access knowledge, develop essential skills, and thrive towards a sustainable future.

These initiatives demonstrate Nestlé Vietnam’s integrated approach addressing environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and economic inclusion by supporting informal waste workers and recycling enterprises within the broader waste management system. They emphasize safety, rights, capacity-building alongside packaging innovation to promote a greener, more inclusive circular economy.

  1. Nestlé Vietnam's collaborative initiatives extend to various sectors, including finance, as they work with recycling businesses to strengthen their competitiveness, fostering a sustainable and socially responsible business environment.
  2. In line with their commitment to sustainable living, Nestlé Vietnam has partnered with organizations to improve lifestyle aspects, such as nutrition health knowledge for the community, contributing to a healthier, more informed populace in Vietnam.
