Luenen, Germany, is gearing up for the annual "Day of Open Heritage" on Sunday, 14th September, 2025. The event, which is part of a nationwide initiative, will see several heritage sites in Luenen open their doors to the public.

One of the participating sites is the Museum Stadt Luenem, located at Graf-Adolf-Straße 36, in the historic Villa Urbahn. Villa Urbahn, a protected heritage site since 2017, was designed by Anton Huber in 1925 for eye doctor Hermann Urbahn. This distinctive Zöllingerdach building has served as a residence and practice for three generations.

The museum will be open from 10 am to 6 pm on both days, and admission is on a "pay what you wish" basis. Guided tours of Villa Urbahn will be held during the "Day of Open Heritage", with sessions starting at 1 pm and 3 pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

For the younger visitors, a "Paint-Workshop" titled "What's Priceless to Me" will be offered on both days. The workshop, which is open to children aged six and above, will take place on Saturday from 1 to 2:10 pm and 3 to 4:10 pm, and on Sunday from 1 to 2:10 pm and 3 to 4:10 pm. Participation in the "Paint-Workshop" is always possible, and no registration is required. The artwork created during the workshop will be displayed directly in the museum garden.

In addition to Villa Urbahn, other Luenener monuments participating in this year's "Day of Open Heritage" include the Villa Urbahn (a 1925 residential and practice building now housing the city museum), the Geschwister-Scholl-Gesamtschule (a former girls' gymnasium from 1956-1962 exemplifying humane post-war architecture), the former canteen of the Westfalia ironworks union, and the Alte Schule Alstedde.

The theme for this nationwide day is "Wert-voll: unbezahlbar oder unersetzlich?" ("Valuable: priceless or irreplaceable?"), focusing on appreciating architectural and historical value. Visitors are encouraged to reflect on what they find priceless or irreplaceable in the heritage sites they visit.

For those planning a visit, a list of all open heritage sites in Luenem can be found at www.tag-des-offenen-denkmals.de. The Museum Stadt Luenem is also participating on the 13th September, 2025.

Whether you're an art enthusiast, a history buff, or simply someone who appreciates the beauty of the past, the "Day of Open Heritage" promises to be an enriching experience. So, mark your calendars and join in the celebration of Luenener heritage!
