Museum City Lünen joins the open commemoration day event
Villa Urbahn, a protected monument and a significant part of Lünen's cultural heritage, will be participating in this year's "Day of Open Heritage" on September 13th and 14th, 2025. Located at Graf-Adolf-Straße 36, the historic Villa Urbahn houses the Museum of the City of Lünen.
Built by Anton Huber, Villa Urbahn has been a residential and practice building for three generations. It is renowned for its Zöllingerdach roof, a distinctive feature that adds to its charm. The villa will be offering guided tours, providing visitors with an insight into its history and architecture. Each tour will last approximately 60 minutes, and tours will start at 1 pm and 3 pm on both days.
In addition to the guided tours, a "Painting Workshop" titled "What is Priceless to Me" will be offered at the Museum of the City of Lünen. This workshop is intended for children aged six and above, and they must be accompanied by a guardian. The sessions will take place on both days, from 1 to 2:10 pm and 3 to 4:10 pm. Participation in the workshop is possible at any time during the session. The artwork created during the workshop will be displayed directly in the museum garden.
Admission to the guided tours during the "Day of Open Heritage" is not specified. However, the Museum of the City of Lünen will operate on a "pay what you wish" basis during these days. The museum will be open from 10 am to 6 pm on both days. No registration is required for the "Painting Workshop" at the Museum of the City of Lünen.
Villa Urbahn is not the only heritage site in Lünen opening its doors for the "Day of Open Heritage". Other sites include the Geschwister-Scholl-Gesamtschule, a historically protected part of the school, the former canteen of the Gewerkschaft Eisenhütte Westfalia, and the Alte Schule Alstedde. These sites offer tours and workshops, providing insight into local architecture and history.
