Multifaceted Possibilities Await at a Singular Landmark

On Saturday, May 17, a public conference titled "A Monument - Many Perspectives" will be held at the Haus des Gastes in Hiddesen. The conference, organised by the Hiddesen Local History Association e.V., the Detmold City Archive, and the Lippe Regional Association, aims to address the issue of proper handling of nationally charged sites, with a specific focus on the Hermann Monument.

The Hermann Monument, a 150-year-old monument located in Hiddesen, will be the central topic of discussion. The conference will delve into various aspects of the monument, including its history, artistic influences, impact on the surroundings, tourism, and the handling of nationally charged sites.

One of the key speakers at the conference will be Dr. Bärbel Sunderbrink from the Detmold City Archive, who will share the latest findings on the history of the Germans and the artistic influences of Ernst von Bandel, the artist behind the Hermann Monument. The conference will also explore how the Hermann Monument can serve as a tourist destination and a nationalist longing place.

Participation in the conference is free, and food and drinks will be provided by the Hiddesen Local History Association, with a donation requested. The conference will take place from 9:30 AM to 5 PM.

For more information about the conference, interested individuals can contact the Hiddesen Local History Association e.V. at telephone number 05231 89333 and email [email protected].
