Major Crackdown on Undeclared Work in Franconia's Catering and Accommodation Sectors
On September 22, 2025, a major operation targeting undeclared work and illegal employment swept through the catering and accommodation sectors in Lower and Upper Franconia. Over 80 suspected violations of the Anti-Black Work Act were identified, with 9 cases involving improper minimum wage payments.
The Financial Control Schwarzarbeit (FKS) of the Schweinfurt Customs led the inspections, with over 80 officials from the Main Customs Office Schweinfurt conducting on-site investigations. They targeted restaurants, delivery services, cafes, fast food outlets, and hotels across Lower Franconia and large parts of Upper Franconia.
The inspections revealed a range of issues. 30 investigations were initiated on-site, with 35 cases involving violations of registration and recording obligations. Additionally, 21 cases showed discrepancies in the payment of social security contributions, and 3 cases questioned the receipt of social benefits. Furthermore, 13 cases involved violations of immigration law, where employees did not have permission to work.
The inspections, which identified more than 80 suspected violations, will be followed up by extensive follow-up inspections. The responsible authority for conducting these inspections has not been explicitly stated. The findings highlight the importance of compliance with labour laws and regulations in the gastronomy and accommodation sectors.
