Long-standing Bosch Family Continues Legacy of Service
From Greece to Germany's Heart: A Family's Bosch Legacy
Born and raised in a tight-knit Greek family, Stavros Madanis' first five words were "Mama, Papa, Opa, Oma, Bosch". Unbeknownst to him, these words marked the beginning of a fascinating family story that spans three generations at Bosch in Stuttgart-Feuerbach. Today, he joins his father Ioannis and mother Stamatia, now retired, in sharing tales of their Bosch journey.
It started in 1970, in a small Greek village nestled near the Bulgarian border. Due to economic hardships, the region was desperate for workers, leading to the recruitment of "guest workers" like Sotirios Madanis. Leaving his homeland and his family behind was a painful decision, but Sotirios had weighed his options and ultimately made the move. He ended up in Munich, where his brother was already working, and after much convincing, moved to Stuttgart in 1971, where he spent the next 21 years working at Bosch.
The legendary Bosch spark plug, a symbol of the family's bond, has been an unofficial Madanis family crest for 54 years now. Or perhaps it's the diesel pump? Ioannis Madanis, a proud member of the second Bosch generation, spent nearly his entire career in production with it. His wife Stamatia, also a Bosch employee, worked for ten years alongside her husband. Contrary to some romantic notions, they didn't meet in the workplace, ensuring a delightful separation of work and personal life.
From Job to Passion
For the Madanis family, Bosch has always been much more than just a job. It's a place where friendships form, integration happens, and a deep sense of pride and belonging develops. This is why, even in retirement, they still keep an ear to the ground about things happening at Bosch.
Stavros Madanis, their son, currently a product manager on the Bosch IT campus in Feuerbach, is no stranger to Bosch. At the age of four, he was fascinated by his father's workplace during Bosch's centennial celebration in 1986. Despite pursuing a career in consulting after graduating from college, Stavros eventually returned to Bosch upon settling down with his Greek-origin wife in Stuttgart.
Roots and Wings
With their two young children, the Madanis family has become the reason for their continued presence in Stuttgart. Even Ioannis Madanis' wife, Stamatia, has rejoined the workforce as a midwife at the Stuttgart Robert Bosch Hospital, further establishing their roots in the city.
Bosch plays a significant role in the Madanis household discussions, a tradition that goes back to Stavros' childhood. After all, his family story is inextricably linked to the red threads of this iconic German company. And as the third generation continues to carry forward this legacy, the Madanis family story is far from over.
