The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) has launched a new scheme called the NALSA Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana, 2025 to provide free and competent legal aid to defence personnel, ex-servicemen, paramilitary forces, and their families.
The scheme, which was virtually inaugurated on July 26, 2025, by the Gujarat Legal Services Authority, aims to address legal challenges faced by soldiers, especially those posted in remote or difficult areas, by providing legal support through a network of Legal Services Clinics linked with Sainik Boards at district, state, and central levels.
The clinics were inaugurated in Gujarat, a state in India, on multiple districts, including the Armed Forces Legal Aid Clinic, which was inaugurated in Gujarat as well, although its specific location within the state was not specified.
The inauguration of the legal services clinics took place under the NALSA Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana, 2025 and was done virtually. The Chief Justice of India, Sunita Agarwal, was present for the inauguration.
The Armed Forces Legal Aid Clinic was inaugurated to provide legal services, as was the case with the other legal services clinics inaugurated under the scheme. The clinics aim to help with legal issues such as family property disputes, domestic matters, and service entitlements, ensuring that legal representation is available even when soldiers cannot personally attend court proceedings.
The Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana is a joint initiative of NALSA, the Kendriya Sainik Board, Rajya Sainik Boards, and Zilla Sainik Boards under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, Ministry of Defence. It is designed to strengthen and extend legal services specifically for those who serve the country in armed and paramilitary forces, in addition to involving families as para-legal volunteers to support their peers.
This initiative marks a landmark step in supporting the legal rights of India's defence personnel and their families comprehensively.
