Furniture with a Conscience: The Reddie Story

Hey there! Let's dive into the inspiring journey of Reddie, a furniture brand that's all about sustainability without the buzzwords. As a passionate owner dedicated to this mission, I'll tell you why I can't stand the term "sustainability," but I freaking love what Reddie stands for.

Reddie's furniture? It's got the green thumb of approval, meeting the standards of high-ranking eco-friendly building certifications like WELL and Green Star. And guess what? We're inching closer to acquiring FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification for our reclaimed wood production, with full recognition on the horizon this year.

But wait, this isn't your typical success story. My roots trace back to my rebel days as an interior architect in New York. I was fed up with those oh-so-impressive, mass-produced designer commercial furniture pieces. They lacked character, felt lifeless, and couldn't be easily customized. I craved the warmth and versatility of handcrafted pieces, lost amidst the machinery of mass production.

Reusing the rejects Looking back, my cluelessness was a blessing. I embarked on a titanic quest to create a commercially successful line of design-led, handmade-to-order customizable furniture, practically from the scrap heap.

And if that wasn't star-crossed enough, I was expecting a baby. In 2013, I swapped bustling NYC for the urban jungle of Kuala Lumpur, where my partner, Andrew (the Google man), was working. With a kid on the way and some leisure time, it was the perfect opportunity to explore my wild ideas. I penned a business plan, sketched collections, and started the hunt for a manufacturer.

Taking the trash and turning it trendy Fast forward to today, and we're doing our bit to make the furniture industry greener by reusing discarded materials destined for landfills. Our approach reduces waste, supports sustainable forestry practices by not demanding new raw materials, and lessens the environmental impact associated with sourcing and transporting materials. Plus, our sustainability practices align neatly with broader eco-friendly principles by incorporating recycled materials in our creations. And just when you thought it couldn't get any more amazing, we're about 80% of the way towards obtaining FSC recognition for our reclaimed wood production – a feat we're aiming to achieve this year.

So there you have it, the story behind Reddie – a sustainable furniture brand that's as rebellious as it is responsible. Join us on our mission to redefine the furniture industry and transform waste into lasting pieces of art!
