The Friso Book Fair, now in its fourth edition, is set to take place at Casa del Lago UNAM on September 20th and 21st, 2023. This independent book fair will celebrate its expansion to a larger space, having previously been held in smaller cultural spaces.

Juan Pablo López, editor and organizer of Friso, has stated that the fair will feature new voices, daring publications, and graphic and literary projects different from those in the conventional market. The fair will run from 11 am to 6 pm, with free entry, and will attract a diverse range of visitors.

The fair will feature 36 publishers showcasing their graphic and literary proposals. These publishers include both national and international independent publishers, such as Penguin Random House, Fondo de Cultura Económica, UNAM’s own publishing house, and numerous smaller, independent publishers.

Some of the independent publishers participating in the fair include Alias Editorial, Amuleto, Cazpulín Taller Editorial, Cooperativa Pliegues Desbordados, Elepress, Gato Negro Ediciones, Kobayashi Book Press, Página Salmón, Trece Ojos, and Friso Mesa de Autopublicaciones. These publishers are known for their unique formats and print runs, and the publications they showcase are primarily those that circulate outside traditional commercialization channels.

The publications at Friso include works from various genres, such as graphic works, essays, novels, criticism, poetry, and more. The publications at Friso are presented by collectives of writers, and will feature live music, performances, book presentations, workshops, film screenings, and a concert.

López also highlighted the importance of fairs like Friso for independent publishers, many of whom struggle to survive by selling indirectly. He noted that these fairs provide an important opportunity for independent publishers to recover and spread their work.

Don't miss out on the opportunity to discover unique and daring publications at the Friso Book Fair on September 20th and 21st, 2023, at Casa del Lago UNAM.
