This role offers a unique opportunity to make a difference in promoting walking, wheeling, and cycling, and to be part of a community of passionate individuals working towards a healthier and more sustainable future.

The Project Officer will lead and support behaviour change projects aimed at encouraging active travel within schools, workplaces, and communities. Key responsibilities include engaging with diverse groups through workshops and events, supporting the delivery of active travel infrastructure improvements, and helping people overcome barriers to active travel.

The role requires project management skills, a keen enthusiasm for sustainable transport, and the ability to work collaboratively across various community and partner groups. Successful candidates should have experience leading physical activity or behaviour change projects within schools, workplaces, or communities.

The organisation offers enhanced maternity and paternity pay, flexible working practices, and a Group Personal Pension scheme with a 6% or 7% of basic salary contribution being matched.

The Project Officer will enjoy a salary of approximately £28,831 per annum pro rata for part-time hours, with flexible working offered. The role offers 28 days leave per annum plus bank holidays for full-time working, and the ability for part-time staff to buy an extra week of annual leave (pro rata).

The closing date for applications is 23:59, 25 August 2025. Interviews will take place at the organisation's Birmingham Hub on the 4th or 5th of September 2025. Candidates must complete the organisation's online application form to apply.

Sustrans has a long-term commitment to being a charity for everyone, reducing inequality, valuing diversity, enabling inclusion, and ensuring all people are treated with dignity and respect. The organisation's vision is of a society where the way we travel creates healthier places and happier lives for everyone. The Project Officer will be part of a movement to make it easier for people to walk and cycle, and to question the status quo and imagine a different world.

The Project Officer will work from Sustrans offices in Birmingham, with some remote working flexibility, and will collaborate with a range of stakeholders. Projects will include improved walking and cycling infrastructure and making it possible for every child to walk, wheel, and cycle to school. The officer will deliver walking and cycling activities such as Dr Bike sessions, led walks and rides, school assemblies, and community workshops.

Joining Sustrans as a Project Officer offers more than just a job. It offers the chance to make friends for life and work with a flexible, supportive, ethical, and fun team.
