Intimate Look at the Compact 8-Foot Wide Abode Acquired for £90k, Whose Diminutive Size Even Its Owners Question: Would You Inhabit It?
Article:
Stepping into Britain's tiniest home, a pocket-sized charmer measuring a mere 8ft wide, Kev Ault grins, "It may be tiny, but it's got character and it's a one-off!" Gifted this mid-1800s cottage by their widowed aunt Beverley Ballard, the brothers Kev and David are eager to let go of their family heirloom.
Kev, tall and amused, poses for photos with outstretched arms scraping the whitewashed brick walls in the front lounge. The picture-perfect home in the charming market town of Castle Donington, Leicestershire, is soon to be auctioned off for £90,000.
David shares warm memories of their reclusive aunt, who resided in the house for 20 years before her tragic demise. The siblings, however, found it difficult to invest time, passion, or money in renovating the historic property. David estimates the renovation costs would equal the purchase price itself.
Nestled in a row on Hillside, this little treasure is only a stone's throw away from the bustling community thriving with cafes, bars, and two popular pubs. Kev recollects that his aunt and her late husband Ian, a self-proclaimed Basil, bought the house in 2005 for £29,900.
The four-room house showcases a front room and kitchen downstairs, with eight steep stair steps, minus a bannister, leading up to the cozy master bedroom and a modest bathroom offering a stunning view of the verdant gardens.
This snug abode has a lot of history hiding in its quaint corners, resonating with the siblings' fond memories of their aunt's dark humor, love for Monty Python and South Park, and the countless hours spent watching murder mysteries and reading about serial killers.
If this tiny charmer suits your fancy, you might want to consider its potential returns on investment. Situated near East Midlands Airport and the M1, this unique property is expected to fetch a much higher price at auction, making it an enticing opportunity for investors and DIY enthusiasts alike.
