Summer Reading Club Encourages Reading During Summer Break in Düsseldorf Libraries

For the past 16 years, the Summer Reading Club (SRC) has been a popular initiative in Düsseldorf, encouraging children and families to read during the summer holidays. This year, the program continues, welcoming participants across multiple city libraries.

Participating libraries include Benrath, Bilk, Derendorf, Eller, Flingern, Garath, Gerresheim, Hassels, Kaiserswerth, Oberkassel, Rath, Unterbach, Unterrath, and Wersten, as well as the Central Library in KAP1. Supported by the Friends of the City Libraries Düsseldorf, these libraries offer an exclusive club collection to participants. In addition, the entire collection of city libraries is accessible.

To qualify for a certificate at the end of the holidays, teams must read a minimum of three to five books. Proof of reading can be recorded digitally and/or in a logbook, where participants can also write short reviews of their reading experiences. Teams can also engage creatively by continuing their own stories, creating character profiles, or obtaining reading tips from other participants' reviews.

For detailed information, visit the city libraries' homepage at https://www.duesseldorf.de/stadtbuechereien/. Each library plans unique surprises for successful SRC participation. The Summer Reading Club concludes on September 2.

It is recommended to check directly with local public libraries in Düsseldorf or their official websites for the most current and specific information about the SRC. Participation requirements, rewards, and other details may vary.

  1. To complement their summer reading journey, families can explore related topics such as lifestyle, home-and-garden, books, and entertainment from the exclusive club collection offered by the city libraries.
  2. After engaging with several books, families can further enrich their summer lifestyle by sharing reading experiences and creativity through character profiles or story continuations, fostering a community of avid readers within the Summer Reading Club.
