In the picturesque hamlet of Bergfelden, a significant milestone has been reached with the comprehensive renovation of the Grathwolen House. This over 400-year-old building, standing proudly in Stuttgart/Sulz-Bergfelden, is one of the largest historical buildings in the area, boasting a footprint of 300 square meters.

The renovation process saw modern windows being replaced with replicas in the old style, a barn addition at the rear believed to date from the 18th century being restored, and damaged areas in the timber frame and wooden floors being repaired. The homeowner, a carpenter with restoration experience, undertook most of the woodwork himself.

Preserved clay walls and an outer wall, likely part of an earlier defensive wall, were also restored during the renovation. Notably, the home's impressive timber-framed gable was preserved, maintaining its original charm.

The Heritage Foundation, an organisation dedicated to preserving historical monuments, provided a grant of 40,000 euros to support the renovation. Since its founding in 1985, the Heritage Foundation has funded around 1,800 projects with around 70 million euros.

The renovated Grathwolen House is now known as the "Grathwolen House" and is located by the mill stream. For more information about the renovation, Ralf Schick can be contacted at 0711 66601 185 or via r.schick@our website.

The Grathwolen House, which was likely built during the Thirty Years' War and dates to 1621, has a rich history. Multiple families and generations lived under one roof in the house for a long time. The Heritage Foundation Baden-Württemberg has named the Grathwolen House the June Monument of the Month.
