Gunnersbury Park Set for £340,000 Boost for Community Facilities
Gunnersbury Park in West London is set for a major boost with a £340,000 award from Highways England. This funding will complete the design stage of Gunnersbury Phase 2, transforming three threatened buildings into community facilities. Councillors Julian Bell and Steve Curran expressed gratitude for the support.
The 75-hectare park, jointly owned by Ealing and Hounslow Councils, is home to 22 listed buildings. In 2009, eight of these were at risk, but thanks to ongoing efforts, they are now being restored. Highways England's Environment Designated Fund is helping address this, with Jim Hunter, their Principal Cultural Heritage Advisor, delighted to contribute to the scheme's sustainability.
The funding comes from a consortium including Ealing Council, National Lottery Heritage Fund, and the London Borough of Hounslow. Historic England's Regional Director, Emily Gee, praised the transformation of derelict buildings into community facilities, with the organisation granting an additional £483,000. The Gunnersbury 2026 Masterplan outlines three phases for the park's regeneration, with Phase Two focusing on the Small Mansion and Stable buildings.
Highways England's £340,000 award, along with additional funding, will help restore three threatened buildings in Gunnersbury Park. These will be transformed into cultural and artistic facilities for the local community, further enhancing the park's environmental performance and sustainability.
