Guardians of Lackford Lakes: Youth Group in Action
Join the Young Wardens, a monthly club for teenagers aged between 11 and 16 years, at the picturesque Lackford Lakes reserve. This exciting programme offers a unique opportunity to explore wildlife, learn new skills, and get active outdoors.
The Young Wardens sessions take place at the Lackford Lakes centre, easily identifiable by the What3Words address: pencils.reckons.complies. Participants will engage in a variety of activities, including learning to use tools safely to carry out practical conservation tasks that help manage the reserve, and conducting surveys of key wildlife species to support conservation efforts.
To attend, it's essential that children wear long trousers and sturdy footwear with thick soles. Inappropriately dressed children may not be able to participate. Also, don't forget to bring a packed lunch for breaks during the sessions.
For safety reasons, all Young Wardens must be dropped off by an adult who can provide emergency contact details. Sending young wardens to the session alone is not permitted.
If you're interested in participating as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award volunteering or skills sections, please get in touch with the organisers. The cost for the event is £7 per session.
The Young Wardens programme at Lackford Lakes is part of Suffolk Wildlife Trust's wider Young Wardens initiative, which operates at other reserves across the region.
For more information about the event's terms and conditions, visit www.our website/eventinfo. If you have mobility requirements, please contact the centre to discuss, as sessions are on areas away from footpaths.
Please note that dogs, except for assistance dogs, are not permitted in the visitor centre, blue Trail near the lakes or hides, but are allowed on Sayer's Breck path and Church Walk.
We look forward to seeing you at the Young Wardens sessions and helping you embark on an exciting journey of wildlife discovery and practical skill learning!
