Former AOK Building in Hürth-Hermülheim Set for Demolition in Late April
The former AOK building in Hürth-Hermülheim is set for demolition between late April and early May 2025. The 'Lebensader Lux' project aims to rebuild the site, creating a new structure and a plaza with a water feature and greenery by the end of September 2025.
The demolition process will prioritize minimizing vibrations, combining machinery and manual methods. It will proceed floor by floor, from top to bottom, with careful consideration for the environment and residents. Potentially hazardous materials will be disposed of professionally and separately, while recyclable materials will be recycled. Remaining furniture and equipment will be sold at a public auction before demolition begins. No additional road closures beyond the existing closure of Luxemburger Straße are necessary. Selected materials such as gratings, sheet metal elements, bricks, windows, and benches will be used in a research project in cooperation with RWTH Aachen.
