Expansive train station for model railways found at Weißenstein
Pforzheim Model Train Enthusiasts Kick Off the New Year with Successful Exhibition
The Pforzheim Model Train Enthusiasts club recently hosted a series of successful exhibitions at their home, the restored Weißenstein Station. The event, themed as the "LGB Train Days," was held in honour of the 50th anniversary of the garden model train LGB.
Several thousand visitors attended the exhibition, according to board members Michael Drexler and Andreas Richter. The visitor crowds emptied the catering supplies by Sunday, a testament to the popularity of the event.
The Weißenstein Station, located at Belremstraße 70 and accessible by car, city bus line 3, and the Kulturbahn/Nagoldtalbahn, played host to a variety of model train layouts. Trains of various gauges ran on four floors, from the basement to the attic, including a large LGB model train layout in the 1 gauge, featuring models of the Rhaetian Railway from Switzerland.
A replica of the Maerklin layout, originally presented at the Leipzig Spring Fair in 1939, was also running next to the Weißenstein Station. The Maerklin layout, maintained and expanded by different working groups of the club, features largely original track, train, and model material. The control of the Maerklin layout is done with historical transformers and control panels.
The exhibition of USA Trains will take place on Sundays, January 28th and February 4th, while the exhibition of German Narrow-Gauge Railways will take place on Sundays, January 14th and 21st.
The traditional exhibition days around Epiphany are the club's annual kick-off to the new year. The income from the exhibitions and the book sale in November benefits the club and the maintenance of the Weißenstein Station, which serves as a museum of past railway culture.
The Pforzheim Model Train Enthusiasts club, with approximately 100 members, has been a popular destination for model train enthusiasts over the past weekend. The raffle at the exhibition was sold out by Saturday afternoon, adding to the excitement of the event.
The club looks forward to welcoming more visitors in the coming weeks for the remaining exhibitions. For more information, visit their website or contact the club directly.
