Exhibition Spotlight: January 2016 Reveal

Nestled atop a hill overlooking the picturesque town of Monson, the Keep Homestead Museum stands as a testament to the region's rich history. Established in 1990, this museum was willed to the Town of Monson by Myra Keep Lovell Moulton in 1988, following her passing in the same year.

The museum's property, built around 1749, was originally the family home of Myra's grandfather, purchased in 1854. Today, the museum is named in honour of Myra, an avid collector, particularly of buttons, who was actively involved in the Monson Button Club in the 1940s.

The Keep Homestead Museum houses one of the largest collections of buttons in the United States. While specific details about the history and collection of buttons are not widely available, it's safe to assume that the museum's focus on local history extends to include such artifacts.

A dedicated group of volunteers, many who knew Myra and her family, are preserving, curating, and showcasing Myra's home, personal possessions, and collections at the museum. These volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that the museum remains a vibrant and engaging space for visitors.

The museum is open to the public on the first Sunday of each month from 1-3:30pm, from early April to December. Visitors can explore the museum's exhibits, learn about the Keep family's history, and gain insights into the daily life of Monson's early settlers.

Interestingly, the view from the museum's front lawn was improved by a tornado that swept through Monson in 2011. The storm, while destructive in many ways, left the museum's property with a panoramic view of the town, enhancing its charm and appeal.
