Reconomy, a leading player in the waste management industry, has expanded its service offerings with the launch of Reconomy Nordics. This strategic move aligns with the broader trend towards circular economy solutions in waste management, aiming to make a significant impact in a specific region.

The new setup, based in the waste management, recycling, and materials recovery sector, will help customers make better use of materials, lower their carbon footprint, and meet regulatory requirements. Reconomy Nordics is designed to offer solutions tailored to the specific needs of its regional customers.

At the heart of Reconomy Nordics is the enzymatic recycling technology, powered by AI-crafted enzymes that break down mixed plastics into recycled raw materials. This innovative approach is expected to revolutionise the waste management industry, setting a precedent for similar regional expansions by other waste management companies.

The facility includes expanded enzyme production facilities for increased proprietary AI-powered enzyme discovery and development. Materials produced at the new plant will be used in product lines for brands like lululemon, as well as pilot programs and trials with brands across textiles, automotive, and packaging.

Meanwhile, in Australia, Samsara Eco has opened a new plant in Jerrabomberra, marking the first of multiple international commercial facilities. The 20,000-tonne facility houses Samsara Eco's enzymatic recycling technology, EosEco. The company's focus is on increasing the production capacity of 'virgin-identical, low-carbon' circular materials such as recycled nylon and polyester.

Notably, Samsara Eco plans to open its first nylon 6,6 commercial plant in Asia in 2028, in collaboration with engineering partner KBR. The success of Reconomy Nordics and Samsara Eco's initiatives could pave the way for a more sustainable future in waste management and material production.

In addition, Reconomy customers will be able to utilise technology and data-driven insights from Reconomy Nordics, further enhancing their waste management and recycling processes. The company will also research recycling solutions for materials such as spandex with The LYCRA Company, aiming to advance circularity by keeping high-quality materials in the loop for longer and reducing manufacturing scrap.

The launch of Reconomy Nordics expands Reconomy's services to a new geographical area, demonstrating the company's commitment to driving sustainable solutions in the waste management industry. The collaboration aims to advance circularity by redefining waste as a valuable resource, contributing to a more circular economy.
