Eastern Ring Area's Green Space Revamped for €132,000
The Eastern Ring area's green space between Hochstraße, Howaldtstraße, and Helmstedter Straße has been transformed. Mayor Dr. Thorsten Kornblum officially inaugurated the redesigned area on Wednesday, September 10th, at a cost of approximately 132,000 euros.
The redesign incorporates suggestions from the neighboring DRK neighborhood development and the wishes of the students of the nearby Martha-Fuchs school. It includes new seating options such as a picnic combination, sun loungers, a pergola, and a solar-powered bench for charging smartphones. Fitness equipment like a full-body trainer, a stability trainer, and a hip and back trainer have also been added.
The two northern and eastern entrances are now barrier-free, ensuring accessibility for all. In the fall, shrubs will be planted along Helmstedter Straße to further enhance the green space. The pergola's color takes inspiration from a pink building that once stood in the area and was destroyed during World War II.
The redesigned green space offers a blend of relaxation and activity, catering to various needs. With its barrier-free entrances, it ensures inclusivity. The total cost of the project was approximately 132,000 euros, with Mayor Dr. Thorsten Kornblum overseeing the official opening.
