Duisburg Offers Free Wood Chip Collection for Winter Garden Preparation

Duisburg residents can now prepare for winter as the city offers a free wood chip collection service from October 6 to 24. This service aims to help garden owners winterize their garden by removing woody material. However, there are specific guidelines to ensure smooth and safe collection.

Residents can dispose of up to five cubic meters of woody material per household during this period. For smaller amounts under one cubic meter, green waste containers should be used. To facilitate collection, branches and twigs should be stacked in one direction and in a pile. Small hedge clippings or garden waste that cannot be picked up with the grabber will not be taken.

Collection dates can be found in the waste calendar, environmental guide, or the city's waste app. Material should be made available on the resident's own property, clearly visible and accessible from the street. If material cannot be placed on the resident's property, sidewalks should remain clear and material should be made available at the earliest on the eve of the collection date.

Certain streets in Duisburg cannot be driven without prior inspection. Collection points in specific areas must be reported in advance to the department of waste management. Access to the collection point must be kept clear, and parked vehicles should be avoided to ensure safe collection.

Duisburg's free wood chip collection service runs from October 6 to 24, allowing residents to prepare their garden for winter. By following the guidelines, garden owners can ensure efficient and safe collection of their woody material.
