Pernille Lind Transforms a Family Home in Exclusive North London
Pernille Lind, the founder of Pernille Lind Studio, has breathed new life into a family home in an exclusive North London residential area. The home, which currently houses a family of five, boasts a mix of Victorian and mid-century architecture, nestled in a leafy setting.
The project saw Pernille collaborating with McGuinness Architects and contractors Beam Development for the extension of the home. The extension, inspired by the mid-century character and rich tones of the existing glass and teak extension, added a games room, cinema room, boot room, and laundry area to the property.
Oak flooring was used throughout the home for continuity, while the home's design centers around a palette of dark-toned timber and rich, autumnal shades. This palette, combined with effective lighting ideas, sets the mood and creates atmosphere, as Pernille believes lighting is key to setting the tone in a space.
Decorative lighting at lower levels was added to accentuate areas and illuminate artworks. Chandeliers were hung from a central ceiling rose to pay homage to the Victorian high ceilings and their intricate cornices.
The clients embraced Pernille's love of materials and textures, including distinctive marbles, woven wallpaper, bespoke joinery, and decorative glass. Natural materials such as timber, marble, brass, woven rattan, mohair, and velvet were used to instill a sense of longevity and authenticity in the home.
Bauwerk limewash and gloss finishes were used in specific areas of the new extension and original part of the house, respectively. A standout tactile feature in the home is a fireplace clad in zellige tiles.
The design of the home aims to balance coziness and sophistication, a testament to Pernille's ability to create spaces that are both inviting and stylish. The home's unique charm and character are a testament to Pernille's vision and the clients' trust in her design sensibilities.
