Designer Reveals Steps for Crafting a Fusion of Mid-Century and California Casual Style in Dining Rooms, as Told by Whitney Port

In the heart of a bustling city, a dining room transforms into a masterclass in styling complementary materials and colors. This is Whitney Port's dining room, a fusion of mid-century design elements and a California casual feel, expertly designed by Dina Litt of Litt Concept House.

The room's centerpiece is a 13-foot elm table from Belgium, a grand addition that sets the tone for the space. To lighten up the room, Wayfair panels were used, creating an airy atmosphere. The mood board was a crucial tool in aligning on the vision for Whitney Port's dining room.

Vintage fabric sourced from the South of France was used to make hand-tied cushions for the dining chairs, adding a touch of European charm. Comfort was not compromised, as a new chair was chosen that had the perfect mix of shape and comfort.

The room features a plush, wool-blend rug in a purple-brown hue, softening the space and providing a warm foundation. Sheer window treatments were used to further make the space feel light and airy.

Everhem was introduced to warm up the windows in Whitney's space, while a late Qing Dynasty open display cabinet from the 1800s, crafted from Chinese elm, was sourced from France. This antique piece, along with others, was carefully chosen by Dina Litt during her direct travels to France and Belgium.

European retailers, including Litt Concept House, rely on these direct travel trips to source unique and well-preserved antique chairs. This hands-on approach allows them to handpick timeless pieces with authentic patina, high quality, and historical character, ensuring rarity and distinction in their offerings.

By sourcing in these continental European regions, known for rich arts and crafts traditions and historic furniture styles, retailers like Litt Concept House can offer furniture that blends heritage with contemporary living. The preservation of original materials and patina enriches modern spaces with both story and style.

In the end, Whitney Port's dining room, with its blend of old and new, is a testament to the success of Litt Concept House's approach. The room is now more open, inviting, and perfect for hosting family and friends, just as Whitney desired.

The interior-design project for Whitney Port's dining room, spearheaded by Dina Litt of Litt Concept House, beautifully merges mid-century aesthetic and a California casual feel, creating a unique lifestyle blend within the home-and-garden setting. To complement this, vintage fabric sourced from the South of France was used to add a touch of European charm to the hand-tied cushions on the dining chairs, marrying the interior design with a European lifestyle essence.
