Commemorates Justice Byron White with inaugural Memorial Garden and a series of July festivities in Wellington.
In the heart of Wellington, Colorado, a new landmark has emerged, the Byron White Memorial and Learning Garden. This garden, a tribute to the esteemed U.S. Supreme Court Justice Byron "Whizzer" White, was the brainchild of local Boy Scout Carter Larsen, a member of Troop 96.
Carter embarked on this project in 2022, as part of his journey to earn the Eagle Scout rank. His dedication and vision have now resulted in a public space that not only serves as a memorial but also an educational resource for visitors of all ages.
Located outside the Wellington Public Library at 3800 Wilson Avenue, the garden provides insight into Justice White's life and contributions. It aims to inspire future generations of Wellington residents through a tangible connection to the town's rich history.
The garden was completed in 2024, and since then, it has been open for public visitation. The community can enjoy various events held within the garden, such as the Main Street Market scheduled for July 11, July 18, and August 1.
Other upcoming events in Wellington include the Cereal Box Concert on July 16, Movies in the Park on July 18, and Hayrides at Harvest Farm on July 23. Additionally, the Mingle on Main event is planned for July 18, and National Girlfriends Day: Downtown Walking Tours & Specials are scheduled for August 1.
