Coalescing with nature and fostering inclusivity: collaborator for Bremen's trial initiative

In the vibrant city of Bremen, Germany, an exciting new project is underway. Titled "Zusammen-Spiel - inclusive playspace design as a community action in the neighborhood", this initiative aims to transform an outdoor area into a nature-friendly and inclusive playspace. The project is being developed in collaboration with the German Children's Aid Association e.V. and the Spiel-Landschaft-Stadt e.V. association, and is being financially supported with 15,000 to 30,000 euros.

The goal of Zusammen-Spiel is to create a guide for designing inclusive playspaces with limited financial resources and without extensive prior knowledge. The playspace should be designed mainly as a "DIY construction site" and as independently as possible from prefabricated, costly, and specifically inclusive play equipment.

Senator for Work, Social Affairs, Youth, and Integration, Dr. Claudia Schilling, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating that the experiences from this project will be used to create such a guide. The emerging playspace will continue to be nature-friendly, inclusive, and publicly accessible.

Interested groups, including parent initiatives, support associations of kindergartens or schools, street and house communities, inclusive housing forms for people with disabilities, self-help groups, associations (e.g., sports or allotment associations), cooperatives, non-profit GmbHs (gGmbHs), church communities and other non-profit religious communities, and youth councils (with the support of an adult person), are invited to submit their applications for the playspace project by December 10, 2024. Applications can be sent to the Social Authority in the Children and Youth Promotion Department at Olaf Stölting via phone (0421) 361-6878 or email [email protected].

The planning and construction phase is scheduled from the beginning of 2025 to mid-2026. Throughout the entire process, the project will be professionally accompanied to ensure its success.

For those seeking more information or wishing to apply, it is recommended to check the official websites or social media pages of the project organizers or relevant municipal departments in Bremen. Alternatively, reaching out to the City of Bremen's department responsible for cultural or community projects can provide additional information on ongoing projects and application procedures.
