City of Solingen seeks trees for the upcoming planting season
In the city of Solingen, residents have the opportunity to participate in the "Biodiversity in the Garden" campaign, an initiative aimed at making private gardens more diverse and promoting urban greenery. This is the fourth round of the "People Need Trees - Trees Need People" campaign in the city.
The campaign focuses on species and varieties that are well-adapted to changing climate conditions and are insect-friendly. Interested parties can apply for tree sponsorship for their private gardens until the end of August. The city will deliver and plant the trees for free.
The plants are about six to eight years old and already at least three meters high. A company commissioned by the city will deliver the trees and plant them professionally, including tree stakes, fertilization, and a water bag. An expert gardener will create a planting plan for a 10 square meter area at no cost for participants of the "Biodiversity in the Garden" campaign.
Residents can use the planting plan for self-implementation or commission a service provider. For those who need help choosing the right tree species for their personal preferences and property conditions, expert advice is available. The city prioritizes interested parties from particularly dense inner-city neighborhoods and settlements that are strongly affected by climate change.
The city provides around 150 high-stemmed deciduous trees annually through this campaign. Since its inception in 2022, the "Biodiversity in the Garden" campaign has received a great response, with 40 households having participated so far.
