Church benches of historical significance from Walporzheim to be sold at auction.
Twenty historic church pews salvaged from the flooded St. Josef Chapel in Walporzheim, a district of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, will be auctioned off this weekend.
The auction, led by celebrity antique dealer Walter Lehnertz, known from the TV show "Bares für Rares," will take place on Sunday afternoon. The event will take place in the courtyard of the Winzergenossenschaft Mayschoß-Altenahr, with previews available from 12 p.m.
The chapel, built in 1770, sustained significant damage during the flood disaster in 2021. Following repairs and renovations, which included the installation of a new floor heating system, the original pews could not be reinstalled without risk of damage.
